One of the most rewarding parts of my job is to share a project with an athlete. Rodrigo has set a goal of completing an ironman distance event in 2 years and has started with a swim focus. He is a self- taught swimmer of 2 years and feels he could do with some guidance to becoming more efficient in the water.
I have included a short clip of his initial swim in our endless pool. Key issues that I spotted were connected to his alignment and streamlining in the water coupled with the breathing/timing. There were other pointers around hand entry, catch and pull but I felt these could be looked at at a later stage.
Stability in the water is key for a novice swimmer – the more streamlined or hydrodynamic they can become the less drag will be created and more propulsion generated.
We worked through some alignment and streamlining drills together with coaching on timing on when and how to initiate the inhalation.
When the new techniques have been cemented we will move onto the next steps.
